The Israelites had to be committed to God by obeying His written word. The law that Moses got from God. This was their primary authority. They couldn’t depend on their ideas, traditions, or religions. This applies to all followers of God. The first five books are what verse 8 is referring to. They record God’s words, commands, and revelation to Moses.
God commanded Joshua to follow, obey, and be faithful to the written word by talking about it, meditating on it, and obeying it. Look at mediate on it day and night. Mediate means to need quietly or talk to yourself as you think about something. We need to think about and study God’s word. When we do this we will know and understand its principles and deepest meaning. We then need to apply these principles to our daily lives.
How awesome is it that if we obey God’s word, we will prosper and be successful. To be successful, one needs to be strong and courageous, make God’s Word our guiding authority, and study and meditate on God’s word.
Do you meditate on God’s word day and night?
Do you know how to meditate on God’s word?
Do you struggle with studying and obeying God’s written word?
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you for your written word. I pray that our hearts will have a desire to study your word. That we will want to know your word and apply it to our life.
In Jesus Name
Amen
