Mary – Part 1

In the sixth month, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David.  The virgin’s name was Mary.  The angel went to her and said,”Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.”  Luke 1:26-28

Mary was a young girl betrothed to be married.  Betrothal was a legal agreement that was much more binding than an engagement and binding as the actual marriage. The only way to dissolve it was through a divorce.  She got to be the Mother to our Messiah Jesus, the very son of God.  She was an ordinary girl, a Nazarene, a faithful servant.  She was humble and lived a godly life. God was so pleased with Mary that He chose her to be the mother of His Son.

Have you ever thought about what it would be like to be the chosen one to be the mother to God’s son.  What would it be like to have your child be the Messiah, the savior, God!!!!?????

What would it be like to be told you are favored by God?

Do you think you could even, maybe, be envious of Mary?

I know we are not to be envious. However, have you ever thought “what if I was to be chosen?  Do you think of all the good things of being the chosen one?  Have you ever thought that she had it easy?  Raising God.  I mean Jesus was with no sin.

Well I don’t have the answers to those questions!  Just thoughts, or opinions.  Just something to think about.  To try to walk in Mary’s shoes.   I don’t think we really think deep down about what she was going through.  Mary was JUST an ordinary girl.  Like you and like Me!!  So . . .

What does it mean to be Favored by God?

It means to make graceful, to pursue with grace, compass with favor, to honor with blessings. to make acceptable

Mary’s Blessing would bring her great Joy, but also brings suffering and pain. The suffering and pain are for another day though.

What would life best like with God literally with you 24 /7 for a few years of your life.  How was it watching him as a child going through life’s little trials of growing up.  Yet, knowing the this was God.

I don’t think being the Mother of Jesus was a bed of roses, like most of us think.  I don’t think she understood all that God was asking her to do.

Mary trusted God and He was with her!!!

To be continued . . .

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for your plan of Jesus birth.  For distinctly  picking the key people to be used for your plan of salvation.  Thank you for favoring Mary.  For choosing her.  For being with her.    God I pray that just as you were with her, please be with us.  Help guide us for you purpose in this life.  That we will be the light of you.  Even though we may also have favor from you that we too, will realize that it won’t be a bed of roses, bur we will say yes to you and trust in you.

In Jesus Name,

Amen
