His Mercy On Whomever He Wills

For the Scripture says to Pharaoh, For this very purpose I have raised you up, that I might show my power in you, and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.  So then he has mercy on whomever he wills and he hardens whomever he wills. Romans 9:17-18

God will reject those who do not accept him.  Pharaoh was a stubborn and rebellious person.  Unless Pharaoh repented, his hardened heart will be the consequence of not repenting. Now, God was pleased to raise a man to be a great king, not to make him wicked, be who he found to be wicked.  Pharaoh had a hardened heart.  He was not going to give into repenting to Mose’s God.  Raised you up – means brought into the world and on the scene of history.  Show my power is by the plagues of Egypt and by the overthrow of Pharaoh and his host in the Red Sea.  God will use the wicked to show his power and justice.

God wants to show mercy and give mercy to those who repent from their sin.  He wants to forgive those who accepts Christ as their savior.  Now Pharaohs heart was hardened by his own sin.  We are hardened by our sin.  God leaves us to the hardness of our heart, denying us that grace which can soften them.  He is not obliged to give.  This is when we do not repent or want to repent.  When we are so against God.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for your ways.  I pray that we will have a softened humble heart for you.  I pray that we don’t have a hardened heart that will block us from you.  I pray that we will repent and turn away from sin.

In Jesus Name

Amen
