When you think or hear the word holiness, what comes to mind? Does dour faces, rigid rules, or self – righteousness come to mind?
What about when you hear people talk about God and seeking him? Can I tell you a little secret? Seeking God is anything but dull! However, What does it mean to be holy? Well holiness can be defined on two levels. The first one is positional holiness, which is what God imparts to us when we become His children. Since we are sinners and God is holy, we need to be reconciled to God by the blood of Christ. Read Colossians 1: 19-22.
Personal holiness is the outworking and fruit of positional holiness. The evidence in the way we think and act. Since we belong to God an the Holy Spirit lives in us, we are equipped to live according to His will every day.
Let’s read Isaiah 6:1-7.
6 In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple. 2 Above it stood seraphim; each one had six wings: with two he covered his face, with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. 3 And one cried to another and said: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; The whole earth is full of His glory!” 4 And the posts of the door were shaken by the voice of him who cried out, and the house was filled with smoke.5 So I said: “Woe is me, for I am undone! Because I am a man of unclean lips, And I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; For my eyes have seen the King, The Lord of hosts.” 6 Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a live coal which he had taken with the tongs from the altar. 7 And he htouched my mouth with it, and said: “Behold, this has touched your lips; Your iniquity is taken away, And your sin purged.”
What would it be like you could experience the holy Go as Isaiah did? How does this passage give you hope?
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you for your holiness. Thank you for making a way for us to be holy and be reconciled to you. I pray that we will hear and listen to what you will show us in your word.
In Jesus Name
Amen
