A True Heart

And Samuel said, Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord?  Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to listen than the fat of rams.  For rebellion is as the sin of divination, and presumption is as iniquity and idolatry.  Because you have rejected the word of the Lord, he has also rejected you from being King.  1 Samuel 15: 22-23

Obeying God is better than sacrifice.  Obeying God comes from a heart that is true. Obeying God is better than the outward form of worship, service, or personal sacrifice.  Saul’s sin was placing his own ideas over God’s.  People will decide what is best for them, and boldly reject what God’s truth is that is declared in his word.  The children of God need to remember that worship, prayer, praise, spiritual gifts, and service to God are meaningless if they don’t obey God.

True obedience to God is doing what is right according to Him.  The sin of divination is seeking to manipulate events, people, or the future by consulting the spirit of the dead.  This really is an interaction with demons.  Disobeying and refusing to accept God’s word is like divination.  They both reject God’s lordship.  Divination removes God’s protection.  It puts the person in the destructive power and influence of Satan and evil spirits.

This doesn’t mean that God rejected Saul personally.  But him being restored as King won’t happen.  He can still ask for forgiveness and be renewed.  This can also happen for us too.  Repent from our sins and live for God.

Is your heart true?

Do you dabble in divination?

Are you rejecting God?

Dear heavenly Father,

I pray that we will choose to obey you then choosing to sacrifice.  I pray that our hearts are true.  I pray that we will not be people that reject you.

In Jesus Name

Amen
