Abominable Practice Not To Practice

When you come into the land that the Lord your God is giving you, you shall not learn to follow the abominable practicesof those nations.  There shall not be found among you anyone who burns his son or his daughter as an offering, anyonehwo practices divination or tells fortunes or interprets omens, or a sorcerer or a charmer or a medium, or a necromanceror one who inquires of the dead,   for whoever does these things is an abomination to the Lord, and because of these abominations the Lord your God is driving themout before you.  Deuteronomy 18:9-12

These verses is a list of occult magic practices that were common in the land of Canaan.  These things were an abomination, which means disgraceful evil to God and forbidden by HIm.  Those among God’s Old Testament people who practiced these thingswere to be put to death.  In the New Testament it is declared that  whoever practices such things will not enter God’s kingdom.

In verse 10, Moses reminds the Israelites not to follow the example of the Canaanites practice of child sacrifices to pagan gods, which was used as a means to influence future events.    Those who practiced divination sought to predict future events or uncover secrets by the aid of evil spirits.  God’s way for us to gain truth is through His prophets.

Mediums, spiritists, or anyone who calls up the dead or consults with the world of spirits (demons) in order to dsicover secrets, predict the future or gain power.  Communication with the dead is actully communication with demons (1 Samuel 28:8-14, 2 Kings 21:6, Isa. 8:19).

God does not take light of this subject matter!  You shouldn’t either.  Have discernment of what you are allowing in your life!

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for your word!  Thank you for your plans and purposes.  I pray that we will obey your ways and not to the evil around us.

In Jesus Name

Amen
