God made a promise to Abram. A promise that to man seemed impossible. However, Abram believed the Lord. What comes to mind when you think on the word believe? It means to accept something as true; feel sure of the truth of: have faith, especially religious faith. Abram believed the Lord. He trusted God’s in His promise. Abram had faith.
In the Old Testament, faith implied two things. First, trust in or reliance on. The second is loyalty to or faithfulness. The Hebrew word ‘aman is translated believe. It means to demonstrate trust by continually acting in obedient faith. True faith will prove itself in practical faith. This is the faith Abram had. He was devoted to God and was obedient to God.
Abram submitted to God’s plans. God saw Abram’s heart. An attitude of faith and accepted it as righteousness. Righteousness is being in the right relationship with God and His will. God also made a promise with Abram. One of protection and rewards. This consisted of many offspring and land. Abram or Abraham is called the Father of all who believe.
This can even be for you. God still makes promises to us. Do you have the faith to trust God and His promises? Do you demonstrate trust by continually acting in obedient faith? Are you relying on God and trusting him? Do you believe?
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you for who you are. I thank you that we can trust you in all things. I pray that we will work on being faithful to you. I pray that we will believe in you and your plans.
