According To Our Faith

He touched their eyes and said, “According to your faith, will it be done to you.”  Matthew 9:29

What is it that stops you from having a relationship with God?  Is it the rules, have to give up things in your life that you really enjoy?  Are you riding the fence of trying to follow both God and your desires?    We won’t change the rules; however, let’s try to understand why God does what he does.  God is all-wise.  He wants an active relationship with each of us.

Let’s see what Christ teaches about faith.  Read the following passages.  Matthew 9:20-22;27-30; 15:28; 17:14-21.  What is the required means of faith intimated about rather than the specific kind of result?   What is this teaching?  Why do you think that God is sometimes willing to reveal Himself dramatically even when we do not actively believe Him?  There are numerous reasons for this. One is to encourage us in our belief.  He graciously reminds of that He can and still does. On the other hand, if we keep being stubborn in our unbelief after merciful revelation, we can expect less and less activity from God.  According to Psalm 115:3, God can do anything He wants under any conditions.

Read Luke 7:11-17.  This is a story where faith is a nonissue.  God does what he wants, but he primarily wants our faith.  He does make exceptions. However, His primary rule is according to your faith, and it will be done to you.  This means that the more we believe in God, the more we are likely to see and experience His intervening power!

Deciding to believe God’s Word over our circumstances can be a tremendous exercise of the will.  We can not be lazy in our faith.  The adventure of faith is not for the weak.  It is active, not passive.

A walk of faith assumes a walk with God.  It can not walk alone.  Faith on its own does nothing.  In the earlier Scripture, faith on its own did nothing to heal.  The faith in Christ is what healed them.  Nothing has changed today!   Read Acts 3:11-16.  What are some principles?  Read Ephesians 1:19, Hebrews 11:6a, Hebrews 11:6b, and Matthew 9:29.  What are the motivations in these scriptures?

What is your primary hang-up on faith? Is there an area in your life that you see little because you believe little?

Dear Heavenly Father,

I pray that we will stay active in our faith in you.  That whatever circumstances come, we will stand strong in faith in you.

In Jesus Name

Amen
