Where do you put your hope in? People, animals, things? We were made to be connected to God. When we grow in God, we can have an unshakable belief in God. We are created to trust God as a provider, healer, and comforter. However, life happens, and this world sabotages our hope in God.
The greek word for hope means trust or confidence in what is certain. With hope, it enables us to believe and act on His Word. This makes us dangerous. The forces of evil beat at us in our confidence in our faithfulness in God. The strategy of the devil is to sow seeds of doubt and uncertainty. The more we think and ponder on His lies, the more it grows and chokes out our hope.
We need to remember that our God is bigger and stronger. He has a better strategy. We can live empowered by a sacred faith that sustains us no matter what the circumstances are. Look at Mary! She has a burning hope deep within your soul. She is trusting her God and what the angel spoke to her. The Coming Messiah will fulfill all that is promised. Isaiah 9:2 says, “The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness, a light has dawned.”
Even Joseph believes in what the angel spoke to them. They have many uncertainty and unanswered questions while waiting for the arrival of Jesus, our Messiah. Where does their certainty, their hope come from? Their hope comes from the Word of God. She doesn’t have to have all the details of how God is going to accomplish everything. She knows that God can fulfill His promises and that He is able. Mary’s hope is built on the nature of God – who he is. It is not built on her circumstances. She is confident in God. He will never leave her nor forsake her. The great I AM has spoken.
Can the Word of God be enough for you? Can you build your hope on that? Can you trust God and His ways without the details? This season of life with lots of uncertainty, can you receive God’s gift of Hope? When the great I AM has spoken to you, can you believe God?
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you for your gift of Hope. I pray that we will put our trust in you and our confidence. I pray that when you speak we will listen.
In Jesus Name
Amen
