Advent: Day Twelve

But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sonship because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son to our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.”  So, you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir.  Galatians 4:4-7

Adoption!  This process to become a family really is a special way.  After adopting 5 children, to me, it is saying, “We choose you, no matter what.”  It’s a process that both sides choose one another.  This is how I relate God’s adoption into His family.

Have you chosen your adoption to become God’s child?  Do you live like a spiritual orphan?  A spiritual orphan feels that they will not be provided for like a child with an inheritance. Will the child be taken care of?  Will they have a place at the table?

Another way an orphaned child feels is having fears of not having enough.  They feel like they have to earn their keep.  They can get jealousy of others and their blessings.  Even though a person has accepted God’s adoption into His family, they may still fight these feelings of not accepted or have to earn their keep.

The more we spend time with God, the more we realize that we are accepted, and we don’t have to work for our place in the family.  We can be secure in God’s love.

This season, take the time to realize that God created you how He wants us to be.  He doesn’t compare us to one another like we do.  He simply loves us as we are and for who he created us to be.  Since Jesus died on the cross for our sins, we have the right to become a child of God.  We can live as a heir.  However, we must take on the role of a servant.  Jesus came to earth and was a servant, even though He was/ is King.  He is the best example for us to model on how to be a child of God.

Read Philippeans 2:6-8.  This describes Jesus lowly position:  “who, existing in the form of God, did not consider equality with God as something to be used for His own advantage.  Instead He emptied Himself by assuming the form of a slave, taking on the likeness of men. And when He had come as a man in His external form,  He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death— even to death on a cross.” .  As children of God, we must do the same of not being entitled nor self-promotion to create the genuine spirit of being a child of God.

God reaches out to us and offers the free gift of salvation.  Would you like to be adopted into God’s family?

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for loving us unconditionaly!  I pray that we will accept your invitation into your family.

In Jesus Name

Amen
