Advent: Day Twenty -One

When he had called together all the people’s chief priests and teachers of the law, he asked them where the Messiah was to be born, “In Bethlehem in Judea,” they replied, “for this is what the prophet has written: ‘But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you will come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel.'” Matthew 2:4-6

By the time Jesus is born, the Jewish people are desperate for a political revolutionary.  Yet, the way we think and how God goes about his business is different.  If we expect Jesus to fit into our expectations, we will be disappointed.  He was born in a stable and laid in a manger as an infant.  He rode into Jerusalem on a donkey.  Anything better than these would have been impressive to us humans, yet He chose a humble way.  He did the opposite of our thought were.  He didn’t meet the human expectation. In lieu, he challenged our assumptions at every turn.

As we prepare our hearts towards Jesus’s birth this season, remember Jesus’ birth reminds us that we are children of God.  When we are not in the Word of God, we forget who we are in Christ. How do we allow His word to invade our hearts until we believe in who he says we are?  It is quite simple yet difficult.  It requires work.  We have to meditate on God’s word; we have to speak its truth into our lives.  Until it reflects in how we live, and then we keep basting in that truth.  We don’t put it back on the shelf of things we understand and learn.

Remember the saying about negative words or thoughts, and for every negative, you have to say like 20 positive words.  This is what we must do with God’s word.  We must state with our mouth, who we are in Christ, who we are created to be, and then start to believe who we are in Christ.  We will then see our new identity in Christ.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for your deep, deep love for us.  Thank you that we can trust in your word and who you say we are.  I pray that as we claim your word we will believe and live your truths.

In Jesus Name

Amen
