Men of Israel, listen to this: Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by God to you by miracles, wonders, and signs, which God did among you through him, as you yourselves know.  Acts 2:22

God presented Himself to His people throughout history in many ways and by many titles.  God is a God full of wonder!

Read Isaiah 9:6.  This verse using wonderful to describe Jesus.  The Hebrew word for wonderful is pele.  It means wonder, marvel, hard to understand, extraordinary.  Reread Joshua 3:5.  Can you see the association of these words?  Wonderful cannot be disassociated from wonders, and marvelous cannot be disassociated with marvel.

Why did God display signs and wonders in Jesus’s day?  Read  Acts 2:22.  God authorized Jesus by using miracles, wonders, and signs.  God also used these events to introduced Jesus to the world. Read Matthew 1:18-24.  What part of this scene would have seemed impossible apart from the miraculous interventions of God?  Now read Isaiah 7:14.  Now, remember, we have to read the bible within the context.  So with that, remember that Isaiah 7:14 was written for Isaiah’s time.  It was written for events of those days.  It was also ultimately and completely fulfilled in Jesus.

The Psalmist who wrote Psalm 74:9 was like many of the other children of God.  He feared that God’s wonders of all were yet to come on behalf of his children. Little did Asaph know is that the greatest wonder is yet to come.  Christ’s birth was the only one of many miracles surrounding the introduction through such signs and miracles.  However, when he what ready, it may have seemed quiet while growing into maturity; he burst onto the scene with one miracle after another.

Read the following passages:  Matthew 4:23-24, 8:16-17;28-32, 8:23-27, Matthew 9:20-22, Matthew 14: 22-31 (two miracles in this passage), Luke 7:11-15, John 2:1-9, John 19:33, 20: 19-20, Acts 1:9

Is there a statement about Christ’s miraculous abilities you could make after reading these few examples?  If so, What would it be?

Jesus has all authority everywhere.  He can stop the wind, flatten the sea, and walk on water.  He can heal any disease or sickness, feed a crowd, change water into wine, raise the dead, conquers the grave, ascends to heaven on a mountaintop.  Jesus – with him, anything is possible.  The possible become far more probable for those who believe God!!

Jesus performing miracles wasn’t all for accreditation and glorification.  Other motivations implied, such as Jesus seeing great faith, a great need, moved by compassion, God Sovereignly appointed it, and for reasons beyond our understanding.

Miracles, wonders, and signs are all a part of who God is.  Believe God.  Let our faith be bigger than our doubt.  Seek God!

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for your hand in all things.  Thank you for your miracles, signs, and wonders.  You are a marvelous God.

In Jesus Name

Amen
