Apple Of His Eye

Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings, Psalm 17:8

When I hear the phrase apple of your eye, it makes me think of one who is special to a person.  Well, according to this verse, we are!  We are special, we are loved, we are cared for by God.

The Psalmist is using word pictures to teach about God’s love and care for His faithful people.  The apple of the eye is referring to the pupil of the eye.  This is a metaphor for something that is cherished and valued.  Doesn’t this make you excited that you are the apple of God!  He adores you.  He is a God who sees you!  The pupil is a delicate part of our body.  We naturally protect it.  This is what God does for us.

The Psalmist is the asking God to hide him in the shadow of his wings.  A bird hides her young under her wings.  This is describing God’s protection, care, and provision.  We pray for God’s strong arm of protection.  We ask for his support.  This is a privilege to every believer.

Do you feel worthy to be the apple of God’s eye?

Do you believe he hides you under his wings?

Do you believe he cares and protects you?

Where do you struggle with knowing how much God cares, protects, and values you?

Do you have any doubt about any this?

Dear Heavenly Father,

I thank you for loving my unconditionally.  Thank you for being a God that cherish His people.  I ask that I know and believe deep down that I am the apple of you eye.  That you adore me.  I pray that for each of us, that you will be the apple of our eye.  That we will love you deeply and be committed to you.

In Jesus Name

Amen
