Being Honest With God

.For when I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long . . . I acknowledge my sin to you, and I did not cover my iniquity.  Psalm 32: 3, 5

How honest are you with God about your sin?  Do you try and hide it?  Deny our sin whether it is blaming others, or making excuses for ourselves comes naturally to us.  We do not need to be taught this.  When our triune God is living in us, we still fight the battle to be deceitful.  God cannot bless us if we are unwilling to acknowledge the truth of our sin.

Read 2 Samuel 11.  Here David disobeyed God’s law and sinned.  Instead of being honest, he lied about his sin of adultery.  he tried to hide, cover up and deny his shortcoming.  Since he did that his household were in anguish.   Not only his household had to deal with his lies, but he also to the woman he had an affair with and to his army.  He even lied to himself by being in denial of what he did was wrong.  He even lied to God over his sin.  Psalm 32 is a description of of David’s first hand experience of God’s mercy and forgiveness.  Read Psalm 32:1-5

How does David describe his torment when he was living in a lie before God?  How did he suffer?  How would you describe his consequences that he experienced – physically, mentally, and spiritually- as a result of his dishonesty to God?

David lived almost a year with God’s convicting him on his soul.  David being silent about his sin was his wrongdoing.  He was refusing to confess and repent about his sin.  On all levels of his physical, emotional, and spiritual live, he was deteriorating.  This can also happe to us, if we stay silent.  We are vulerable to sins entrapment.  Refusing to be honest aobut our failure, mistakes, and sin will being painful consequences to us as it did to David.  Here is a truth:  WE have another choice.  We can be honest.

In verse 5, what did David finally do to return to God and be freed from weight of his guilt?  How did God respond when David was finally willing to uncover his sin?

When you read Psalm 32, could you almost here the joy and relief in David?  When David let go of his pride, confessed and was honest to God, ourselves, and others, God sent relief to David.  This samething will happen for us too. God is willing to cover all our sin we uncover before him with Jesus blood.  When God is convicting you of your sin, let go of your pride, be honest and ask for forgiveness.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for your patience with each of us. I pray that we will be honest with ourselves, with others and most of all with you.  I pray that we will let go of our pride, confess when Holy Spirit is convicting us, to be honest about our sin.  Thank you for loving us enough to cover our sin with Jesus blood.

In Jesus Name

Amen
