By faith, Abel offered God a better sacrifice than Cain did. Hebrews 11:4
Do you doubt yourself being able to be used by God? Do you ask God why He is using someone like yourself and not someone else?
I think we have all done that! I don’t have a redeeming story like so and so. My story is not as amazing as that person’s. God really changed that person. Do you understand my point there? WE forget that God knows who we are and where we have been. Yet, He has forgiven us when we choose to follow Him. We forget that He has the better plan. WE forget that He knows what he is doing!!!
Read Psalm 103: 14. We need to be people who believe we are who God says we are. I got done this past weekend with my VBS; the first day, we talked about heroes. When we look at Hebrews 11, the hall of faith people, they were not superheroes. The people in the Bible were human, just like you and me. They were not any better equipped than we are. Not one of the Bible figures was born special. They were just like you and me. They all had struggles with their walk in faith.
Read Hebrews 11:4 and Genesis 4:1-16. What might have made Abel’s offering to God more acceptable than Cain’s?
As you read and reread these passages, Cain’s heart was troubled. He was rebellious. Cain had a chance to change and make things right, but he didn’t. Why was Abel’s offering more acceptable? It was by faith. Read Genesis 3:21 to make the connection. What does it tell us?
Read Hebrew 12: 24. Compare this verse to Genesis 4:10. What do you think the blood of Abel cried out to God?
God calls His children to obedience. Faith means believing that blessing never fails to follow obedience, no matter the sacrifice.
Reread Hebrews 12:24. See if your translation uses the words covenant and better. What do these words mean?
Covenant means a disposition, arrangement, of any sort, which one wishes to be valid.
Better means more useful, more serviceable, more advantageous.
If you put the word continually in, you will have the concept. The blood of Christ continually keeps speaking a better word. Christ’s blood keeps speaking on your behalf. How does that make you feel?
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you for your son’s blood. Thank you for the better sacrifice. I pray that we will be will to offer to you a better sacrifice than what we do.
In Jesus Name
Amen
