Blessing Others

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.  Ephesians 1:3

How well do you bless others?  The Greek word for spiritual blessing is similar to eulogia.  Its definition is praise, laudation, fine speech.  Bless, or blessing, comes from the Greek word makarios. However, today we are going to focus on eulogia.

Let’s start with God and how much he blesses us. God has used His powerful mouth to call us by name and speak blessings over us.  His speaking is action.  His speech is the energy released.  God speaks favor over us.  What are some of the most specific blessings you’ve received from God in the past year or so?

Imagine God speaking those blessings into existence over your life.  How good is our God? Now think about all the things you have asked God for.  Would they be good things if God would have given them to you, or are you glad that God did not give them to you?

Spoken blessings turn to us.  We are a people created in His image, then born again by His Spirit to be called by His name.  God wants to make our blessings to those around us.  Our tongue can speak over others.  We want to omit bad things from our mouths.  We want to commit our mouths to bless!  What are some ways we can bless others this way?

Read Malachi 3:16.  How does God respond when those of us who reverence Him speak good words to one another?  Read the following passage and record the context of each blessing and any insight you receive.

Matthew 5:44, Matthew 14:19, Matthew 25:34, Luke 1:28, Luke 2:27-30, 1 Corinthians 4:11-12, James 3:9, 1 Peter 3:8-9.

Take today to bless God and ask God is if there is anyone He wants us to bless.  Maybe apologizing to someone could be a blessing to them.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for blessing each one of us.  I pray that we will listen to you as you speak to us on who we should bless with our tongue or with action.

In Jesus Name

Amen
