By Faith: Enoch

Enoch was taken from this life by faith so that he did not experience death; he could not be found because God had taken him away.  For before he was taken, he was commended as one who pleased God.  Hebrews 11:5

Do you please God?

Read Genesis 5:21-24. Enoch walked with God.  This is all we have to do to please God.  Walk with Him, which is obeying Him.  He wants us to have faith in Him, not by sight.  When we align Hebrews 11:5 with Genesis 5:24, We see the Enoch clearly walked by faith, and faith is the evidence of things unseen.

Let’s take a long at the whole chapter of Genesis 5.  How old was Enoch when he started to with God? The verses said that after Methuselah was born, He walked with God.  So Enoch didn’t always walk with God.  What happened in his life that He chose to walk with God? Whatever it was, Enoch walked with Him for three hundred years.  Then one day, God took him home to heaven with him.

Read Philippians 3:12-14.  How did Paul describe his one thing philosophy? Let’s look up some keywords and their meanings.

Perfect comes from the Greek word teleioo.  It means to make perfect, complete.  To carry through completely, to accomplish, finish, bring to an end.

Follow after comes from the Greek word dioko.  It means to make a run or glee, put to flight, drive away. Or positively, it also means to run swiftly to catch a person or thing, to run after, press on.

What do these action verbs mean to you, according to these passages?

God created us.  He knows what satisfies our souls.  He created us to need to contribute to and participate in the harvest.

How can we make sure that we sacrifice something wonderful or something of value if we walk with God? Read Matthew 6:33 for the answer to this question.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for leaving examples of how to walk with you.  I pray that each of us will learn to walk with you fully and to give you glory in all we do.

In Jesus Name

Amen
