    Mary – Part 5

And Mary said, “My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has been mindful of the humble state of his servant.  From now on all generations will call me blessed, for the Mighty One has done great things for me – Holy is His name.  His mercy extends to those who fear him, from generation to generation.   He has performed mighty deeds with his arm; He has scattered those who are proud  their inmost thoughts.  He has lifted up the humble, He has filled the hungry with good things but has sent the rich away empty.  He has helped his servant…

    Mary – Part 1

In the sixth month, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David.  The virgin’s name was Mary.  The angel went to her and said,”Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.”  Luke 1:26-28 Mary was a young girl betrothed to be married.  Betrothal was a legal agreement that was much more binding than an engagement and binding as the actual marriage. The only way to dissolve it was through a divorce.  She got to be the Mother to our Messiah Jesus, the very son of God.  She was an…

Old Testament Prophecy – Part 3

“Behold, I send my messenger, and he will prepare the way before me.  And the Lord whom you seek will suddenly come to his temple; and the messenger of the covenant in whom you delight, behold, he is coming, says the Lord of Hosts. Malachi 3:1 During Malachi’s time, the people began to doubt God’s promise.  Malachi reassured the people who the Messiah – the One they were waiting for –  would come.  God would send a messenger to prepare the way for the Messiah.  This prophecy was fulfilled when John the Baptist came as the forerunner to announce Jesus Christ.  The messenger of the covenant is Jesus.  Jesus will…

Old Testament Prophecy – Part 2

The scepter shall not depart from Judah, not the ruler’s staff from between his feet, until tribute come to him; and to him shall be the obedience of the people. Judah’s descendent would hold a position of generational authority over the other tribes of Israel.  This part of the promise was fulfilled when Israel’s royal link came through King David, a descendant of Judah.  “Until tribute comes to him,” is reference to the Messiah, the one to be the last fulfillment of the promise. Dear Heavenly Father, Thank you for the last fulfillment of the promise of our Messiah.  Help us to serve and to obey your word. In Jesus…

Isaiah 40:1-11 Comfort, comfort my people, says your God.  Speak tenderly to Jerusalem, and cry to her that her iniquity is pardoned, that she has received for the Lord’s hand double for all her sins.  A voice cries: “In the wilderness prepare they way of the Lord; make straight in the desert a highway for our God.  Every Valley shall be lifted up, and every mountain and hill be made low; the uneven ground shall become level, and the rough places a plain.  And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together, for the mouth of the Lord has spoken.”  A voice says,…
