    Rahab: Part One

Joshua son of Nun secretly sent two men as spies from the Acacia Grove, saying, “Go and scout the land, especially Jericho.” So they left, and they came to the house of a woman, a prostitute named Rahab, and stayed there. Joshua 2:1 Rahab was a harlot or, in other words, a prostitute.  She grew up in a pagan Canaanite culture of Jericho.  This culture worshipped Baal and other idols.  Joshua was the new leader when we first hear about Rahab.  How and why did the spies meet Rahab? Read Joshua 2:2-7. What do we learn from this passage?  The king of Jericho learned that spies of Israel were there.  He…

    Reflection Day

Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. Psalm 46:10 Today is Reflection Day!  I love reflection day.  It’s a time for me to go back and reflect on what God has spoken to me about.  It gives me time to pray and seek God about what he wants to change in my life.  It gives me time to make a game plan of putting action to what God is telling me and asking of me.  Reflection Day gives me a slower pace to grasp what God is telling me.  It gives me more time to…

    Miriam: Part Two

“See to it that no one comes short of the grace of God; that no root of bitterness springing up causes trouble, ad by it many be defiled.” Hebrews 12:15 Sin always has a consequence.  The more public it is, the greater the consequence.  Miriam let her jealousy get out of hand.  When this happened, it sprung up, and many were defiled because of her jealousy.  Bitterness sets in when we allow jealousy into our lives. Miriam criticized her brother and brought her other brother into this.  As a leader, she used her giftedness and position to lead the others into doubt, criticism, and to question Moses.  She was not…

    Miriam: Part One

Miriam!  The oldest of three children. The one who watched over Moses while he floated down the river.  Read Exodus 2:1-10.  What do you learn about Miriam’s role in Moses’ rescue from death?  When did she approach the Pharaoh’s daughter? After Moses was weaned from his mother, nothing else is said about Miriam for a while. What we do know about her early life is she is a Hebrew in Egypt.  In a time where Hebrews were a slave.  Therefore, she was taught to work hard out of forced labor.  Read Exodus 15:1-20.  What do we learn about Miriam?  What did she do?  She was a prophetess. She…

    Sarah: Part 2

“Is anything too difficult for the Lord?  At the appointed time I will return to you, at this time next year, and Sarah shall have a son.”  Genesis 18:14 Do you ever move ahead in God’s plans?  Do you tend to do what you think God wants you to do, to realize that it wasn’t at all what he wanted you to do?  This what Sarah did.  She allowed unbelief in God to keep His promise of a child and did her own plan, trying to achieve God’s plan.  It didn’t go well for Sarah, and it doesn’t go well for us either. We face a challenge of God’s plan…

    Sarah

“In the same way, you wives, be submissive to your own husbands so that even if any of them are disobedient to the world, they may be won without a word by the behavior of their wives, as they observe your chaste and respectful behavior.  And let not your adornment be merely external  – braiding the hair, and wearing gold jewelry, or putting on dresses; but let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in the sight of God.  For in this way in former times the holy women also, who hoped in God, used o…

    Eve: Part 2

“For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life is not from the Father but is from the world.  1 John 2:16 We don’t take warnings or truth very well.  In fact, seldom do I meet a person who handles truth and warnings very well. We don’t stop to really think about the consequences.  Our choices will affect others.  Whether it is good or bad, it affects others.  Being affected by other choices can be directly or indirectly.  Through Eve, we learn that talking to Satan and walking with God do not go hand in…

    Eve

For the creation was subjected to futility—not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it—in the hope that the creation itself will also be set free from the bondage of corruption into the glorious freedom of God’s children.  For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together with labor pains until now.  Romans 8:20-22 The first woman created- Eve.  She will forever be the woman first to sin, who ate the forbidden fruit.  Eve was the final part of creation.  Then God rested.  Eve was made for Adam to be a companion.  A helpmate.  They were meant to complement one another where the other was weak.  Their strengths…

    Advent: Day Twenty-Five

And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.  1 John 5:11 . Christ is Born. Immanuel – God with us.  It is time to yell, “Merry Christmas.” To be of good cheer.  Have excitement.  We are busy with opening presents, getting the dinner prepared.  Do you make time for God on this Day?  We use the day as a reminder that He did come here to earth to be with us.  Yet, have we put him off to the side of all our business? Even though the Jews didn’t have the whole picture of God’s plan in the Bible times,…
