for while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will scarcely die for a righteous person – though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die – but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:6-9
Christ died for sinners. We were helpless and useless. Christ died to save us from our sins. Jesus died at the right time for all. God designed to deliver from sin into work a great change. While we are sinners in this sinful state, we are rebellious to God. We have a harden heart towards God. God hates the sin. Yet, here are God sent his son to die for our sins. By his grace, we are forgiven. It is hard to grasp how a man would die for a righteous person – A good person. Let alone a sinner. People were sitting all around Jesus while he was paying the price for their sin.
God’s love! Both God and Jesus love is involved in the atonement. According to Ellicott’s Commentary , he states “ The love of Christ is evidenced by the fact of his death; the love of God is evidenced by the love of Christ. God and Christ go hand in hand for our salvation. They love the people and want to have a relationship with no barrier. His love surpasses all that has ever been manifested among people. He took our place and saved us from eternal hell.
