Deborah: Part Two

And he said, “Listen carefully, all Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem, and King Jehoshaphat. This is what the Lord says: ‘Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast number, for the battle is not yours, but God’s. 2 Chronicles 20:15

Our abilities do not limit God’s power.  Our talents are also not what’s makes us usable to Him.  Deborah was a woman who was faithful, available and trusted in God.  If we would yield to God, let His power work through us, We could be just as usable for God’s kingdom.

From Judges 4:6 -7, what do we learn from Deborah concerning the details of God’s plan as she shared it with Barak?  Remember, Deborah was a prophetess who could hear from God.  None of this was her plan.  She obeyed God and told Barak to take 10,000 men to Mount Tabor.  They have no weapons, yet God has a plan.  Read verse 7 for the plan.  What was Barak’s response to Deborah, and why do you think he responded that way?

Barak knew that Deborah hears from God.  Why wouldn’t you want the person who hears from God next to you?  Some think it’s because he is a fearful man.  I am not sure what I think.  I can see the view of He knew Deborah was a Godly woman and heard from God, so why wouldn’t a person want that person next to them in battle.  I have found that those who have God in them wholeheartedly have peace surrounding them in a fearful situation.  It is comforting to have that person around.  He knew who would lead with wisdom in this battle.

Barak couldn’t prophesy, Deborah couldn’t fight; this made them a good team.  They went to battle together.  Israel had the military warrior and a spiritual warrior in Deborah.  Barak refused to do anything without the spiritual leader.  How did Deborah respond to Barak’s request?

God wasn’t going to give honor to the military man; he wanted it to go to the weaker vessel; therefore, Deborah, for going with Barak, got the honor.  God used Deborah’s weakness as a woman to show His power.  God uses the faithful, the obedient, weakest, and available.  Can He use you for His plans and purposes?

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for your power.  Thank you for using those who are weak, faithful, and available.  I pray that we will be like Deborah.

In Jesus Name

Amen
