Digging Deeper

Whoever conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy.  Proverbs 28:13

Wow!  Being honest is so important.  It’s important to God, to ourselves, and to others. Nothing good comes from being silent, or not being honest.  What do you think of our decieving others by what we don’t say?  What are some other ways we can be dishonest with others? Why do you think it is hard to be honest with each other?

The deception of others by individuals, usually for the sake of their own interest, safety or pride. Scripture condemns such pretence and demands honesty from believers at every point. Let’s dig deeper!

 1Kings 14:1-6;  Genesis 27:5-19,35-36; 29:16-25; 38:13-16; 2Samuel 14:1-3

 Proverbs 12:9; 2Chronicles 35:20-22; Proverbs 13:7; Matthew 6:2,5,16; 23:27-28; 24:4-5;  Mark 13:5-6

Which of these verse fit into the self deceit in our lives?  Do any of them?

Now read Psalm 32:1-5.  What was David’s condition while he was living a lie? What was his condition after he was honest and confessed?

Read 1 John 1:5-9.  How does walking in the light benefit us as individuals?

How does it benefit us as a church?

Between you and God, where are you at with being honest?  Are you fighting it?  are you willing to start being honest?  Or are you already honest with God?  Are you already honest with yourself? How about with others?

Is there any time that you don’t have to be honest with others?  Or do we only need to be honest with others if our sin has affected them personally? What questions have came to you while studing the bible?

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for being patient with each of us.  I pray that we will come with a humble and honest heart before you.  God help us to be honest with you and ourselves and even with others.  I pray that we will choose to know your word and to live it out in honesty.

In Jesus Name

Amen
