Digging Deeper

Today we are going to read from these passages –  1 Peter 3:13-17, and 1 John 3:19-24.

And who is he who will harm you if you become followers of what is good? But even if you should suffer for righteousness’ sake, you are blessed. “And do not be afraid of their threats, nor be troubled.”  But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear; having a good conscience, that when they defame you as evildoers, those who revile your good conduct in Christ may be ashamed.  For it is better, if it is the will of God, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil.  1 Peter 3:13-17

And by this, we know that we are of the truth and shall assure our hearts before Him. For if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart and knows all things. Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence toward God.  And whatever we ask we receive from Him because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight.  And this is His commandment: that we should believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another, as He gave us commandment.  Now he who keeps His commandments abides in Him and He in him. And by this, we know that He abides in us, by the Spirit whom He has given us.  1 John 3:19-24

Why is it important to obtain and maintain a clear conscience with our families and in our churches?

What is the blessing in do this?

What are the consequences of not doing this?

How do you define what a clear conscience is?

Why is this so important for us as believers to put into action and to understand?

What is the scope of confession?  Does this mean that we apologize to everyone who knows about it or just those affected?

Do we understand why it is important when in conflict with others, that it is important not to gossip about it to others?  Do you see the importance of going to that person first?

What do you think would happen in our world if we would start practicing what God has taught us about our words, actions, and how to handle conflicts?

Here is a little tip – When sharing how God is working in your life, be careful not to reflect negatively on others, or reveal specific details that should not be known publicly!

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for your word of truth.  I pray that as we study it we will know what your truth is.  I pray that you will help us know what having a clear conscience in our everyday life.  Help us to know what words to use while sharing what you have done in our lives.

In Jesus Name

Amen
