As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. Isaiah 55:9
Let’s dig a little deeper in to the adjustments of God. Noah could not continue life as usual and build an ark at the same time (Gen. 6), Abram could not stay in Ur or Haran and be the father a nation in Canaan (Gen. 12:1-8), Moses could not stay on the back side of the desert herding sheep and stand before Pharaoh at the same time (Ex. 3), David had to leave his sheep to become king (1 Samuel 16:1-13), and Amos had to leave the sycamore tree in order to preach in Israel (Amos 7:14-15). Wow! What adjustments they had to make in their lives. Have you come to a place in your life where you are ready to surrender everything to Him?
Now let’s look at 1 Kings 19:15-21 and Luke 18:18-27. What adjustments did each of these men have to make in their lives? What was the response of each of these men? The rich young ruler want eternal life but didn’t want to make the adjustment in his life to Jesus. His money and possessions were to important to him. The young ruler refused. He missed out on knowing the one true God. Elisha on the other hand, made the right decision. He left his family and farming in order to follow God’s will. He burned his farm and killed his oxen and fed the community, in order to follow God. He made the adjustments to follow God.
Here are some scriptures to look up and figure out what kind of adjustments these people made in their lives. Read Matthew 4:18-22, Matthew 5:43-48, Matthew 6:5-8, Matthew 20:20-28, and Acts 10:1-20. Did these people make adjustments in circumstances, relationships, in thinking, in commitments, actions, or in beliefs? Did some of these have more then one adjustment?
In total dependence on God, let’s dig deeper! Look up Isaiah 14:24; Isaiah 41:10; and Isaiah 46: 9-11. What do these passages say about being dependent on God? Does any of these verse stick out to you? Next, find verses that talk about waiting on God. Find one that stick out to you. Memorize it and live by it.
Did you know that when we have an encounter with God, we have a crisis in our prayer life? Are you willing to pray until God brought it about? Here is a prayer promise: “Whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.” Mark 11:24. Please be careful with this verse. It is one that is used in the name it, claim it theology. One does not want to be selfish and have a selfish theology. Remember God takes the initiative, he gives you the desire to do His will. The Holy Spirit guides you to pray God’s will. The God centered approach is to let God lead you to pray according to HIs will. Prayer also requires an adjustment.
Dear Heavenly Father,
I pray that we will depend on you. I pray that we will choose make the adjustments in our lives that will line up to you. I pray that these verses will speak to each of our hearts and show us how to live and adjust to you.
In Jesus Name
Amen
