How many believers think that they can continue to sin because of God’s grace? Paul challenges this faulty idea that we can continue to sin and remain secure and guilt-free in their salvation because of God’s grace. People in Paul’s day believed the misguided view that they were not held to God’s moral laws as long as they had faith and relied on God’s grace. Paul stands strongly against this view. God’s grace by presenting on the most basic of all spiritual truths for those who are justified in Christ. We are in Christ, therefore we are dead to sin and alive in God.
Since we are in Christ, we are free from sins’ control and influence in our lives. We are not servants of obedience which leads us to righteousness. Water baptism is close to the decision to follow Christ. Baptism in water does not bring you salvation. It is our faith that builds our relationship with Christ. Water baptism is an outward show of our faith. It is a symbol that we are dead to sin and have a new life in Christ. It is a way fo identifying ourselves to Jesus’ death and resurrection. It’s showing we can live completely for God and obey him.
If we keep living in sin, we are showing that we are not true believers. Paul speaks throughout the book of Romans how we cannot be slaves to sin and be a slave to Christ at the same time. You will have to choose which one you will serve.
Who will you choose to serve today?
Will you continue to sin or be dead to sin?
Are you willing to focus on God’s will and desire?
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you for this glorious day. I pray that we will choose to be your servant. That we will live for you and not continue to sin because we think we are safe to do so because of your grace. I pray that we will have a desire to please you in all we do.
In Jesus Name
Amen
