Don’t Drift Away

Therefore, we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it. For since the message declared by angels prove to be reliable, and every transgression or disobedient received a just retribution, how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? It was declared at first by the Lord, it was a test to us by those who heard, Hebrews 2:1-3

Do you struggle with hearing what is spoken to you? Can you remember what you heard? The author of Hebrews focus on this superiority of God’s son and his revelation is to stress to those who have salvation that they must not get careless about their personal relationship with God.

Let’s look at the words drift away. Do you know what it means? The Greek word for drift away is pararreo. This is a mental picture of a ship drifting passed a safe Harbor and continuing until it Reaches a point where it wrecks.  This is a really good picture of our Christian walk. We must pay close attention to God’s word, our relationship with Jesus, and the guidance of the Holy Spirit. We must do this if we don’t want the end result like the mental picture of the words drift away.

If we neglect our spiritual walk it will be spiritually fatal. When believers are negligent in their relationship with Christ, and our devotion to the truth slips,   We are in great danger of being swept by the waves of life. We passed safe Harbor and the place of security.

The author of This was warning the recipients in this letter. We need to heed this warning, also. We need to take it seriously of not neglecting our relationship with God. We must make it a priority in her life to be in God’s word, pray, and praise him. We must not ignore the guidance of the Holy Spirit. If we stop doing these things we will drift away.

Have you ever drifted away?

Do you take your relationship serious with God?

Dear Heavenly Father

Thank you for this glorious day!  I pray that we will take this warning serious. That we will take our relationship with you serious.

In Jesus Name

Amen
