Feeding Of The Five Thousand: Part Two

Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life.  Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never go thirsty.  John 6:35

Read Mark 6: 49-52 below.

49 And when they saw Him walking on the sea, they supposed it was a ghost, and cried out; 50 for they all saw Him and were troubled. But immediately He talked with them and said to them, u “Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid.” 51 Then He went up into the boat to them, and the wind ceased. And they were greatly amazed in themselves beyond measure and marveled. 52 For they had not understood about the loaves, because their heart was hardened.

What did the disciples miss because of their hardened hearts?  Does this speak to you?

The disciple’s hearts were not filled with humility.  They were silencing their humility and allowing pride to come into their lives.  Pride comes subtly when we start to disagree with the truth.  We start to think we deserve a little more than what truth will allow.  We begin to believe that we know a little better than the truth that bumps up against our desires.  We beginning to justify ourselves where we skewed the truth.  We begin to have an elevated sense of self-growth.  This is what the disciples found themselves at.

The disciples had been out and about doing ministry and were a success with it.  They were preaching, teaching, healing, and casting out demons.  The question then arises, “Are they willing to serve Jesus in the quiet places that weren’t glamorous?  Where they still about serving God or did they become about serving their egos?  Where were the disciples hungry at?  Was it more focused on the bios or the zoe life?  When we are filled with pride, it can consume us, then we are not consumed by God.

We don’t want to be people that have hardened hearts and miss what God is trying to show us and teach us.  We serve a good God who is always working behind the scenes in our lives.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for your mercies.  I pray that we will not hush our humility and let pride enter into our lives.  I pray that we will keep a softened heart to you and your ways.

In Jesus Name

Amen
