Since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us. 1 John 4: 11-12
When we are believers living for God, this makes us kingdom people. As kingdom people we are interrelated with other members of the kingdom of God. God can and will manifest himself in the church.
Let’s look at Acts 2: 42-47. This passage shows how koinonia works.
“They devoted themselves to at the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily the who were being saved.”
What would our world look like if we did this today? What would happen if our churches started to do this very thing that the people of Acts 2 did? How would each of our own walk with God be like?
To be honest, the thought of just sharing my possessions with others is hard for me. I work hard to get that one item and what if somethings happens and it breaks?. Right there is what stops us. We need to have a different mindset. We need to keep our eyes on God and realize that everything we have came from God. It’s not ours, it God’s and he is allowing us to have and to use it, but to also bless others. But what about what the church possesses? Some churches don’t share the best, but as one unit we should share what God has given to us. We need to not be selfish with our resources. When we share with each church we develop a deep koinonia amongst each other.
We need the Lord and we need each other. We need help and encouragement. But what about other denominations? Well, I think we can have koinonia with each other. We will call this sister denomination. We do have to be careful with religions that are false, and I am not talking about these types of fellowhsip. I am talking about those who believe that God sent his son to die on the cross for our sins and rose again. We don’t have to debate about what we believe, we have to be obedient to God and he says to love all. We love each other, help each other, pray for each other, encourage each other. Let the Holy Spirit guide us to Truth. God is God and we need to let him be God. With this all being said, we can have koinonia with all believers. We love as God loves, we obey, and help each other. In our community, we have once a month where different denominations get the youth together and have service. We are starting a koinonia as a community.
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you for your love. Thank you for fellowship with you and with other believers. I pray that we will seek you deeply that it will extend to others of your love for each of us. I pray that we will let go of our issues and focus more on what your will, plan, and purposes are. With that you will accomplish what needs to be and your glory will shine.
In Jesus Name
Amen
