Are you willing to finish the race well? Finishing the race well, We, as God’s servants, must emphasize the Word. Paul commands Timothy to Preach the Word. This powerful statement has echoed through the centuries and is one that should not be taken lightly.
Preach the Word, no matter what comes. Preach to rebuke, warn, and exhort, with all patience. What are some reasons why we should preach, teach, and share the Word of God? Our authority is not in our position, imagination, personality, or loudness – but only in the Word of God! There are four truths about preaching the truth.
- Preach the Word in a prepared manner (2 Timothy 4:2)
Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season. Good preaching requires the habits of daily devotions, Bible study, research, prayer, and meditation. As the preacher feeds himself, he finds spiritual food to share with others.
2. Preach the Word in a relevant manner.
When we preach the Word of God, it needs to be on Biblical principle. Biblical principles are true and relevant – anywhere, anytime, for anyone. We illustrate and apply each principle to make it clear and move the truth from the head to the heart. Jesus was a great example of relevant teaching and preaching. He stated the truth as a principle in one short sentence. Read Matthew 19:19, 22:39; Mark 12:31,33; Luke 10:27; and Luke 15. Look at how Jesus stated His truth and then how he illustrated it. His preaching was clear, easy to remember, powerful, and relevant for every generation in every nation.
3. Preach the Word with great patience.
Is patience one of the fruits of the Spirit? Yes!! Do you depend on yourself for patience, or do you rely on the Holy Spirit?
As believers, we have to depend on the Holy Spirit to love people and be patient with them. Our harshness can push them away from God. People do not make changes quickly; it is relatively slow. It takes years to see the difference you are doing when being a servant of God.
Dear Heavenly Father,
I pray that we will devote ourselves to being in your Word and preach your Word to all we encounter. I pray that you will understand what the truths are in your Word to share with others. Please give us opportunities to share your Word with others.
In Jesus Name
Amen
