Forgiving Like Jesus

“Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit.” says the Lord Almighty. Zechariah 4:6

How well do you forgive those who have hurt you? Is it hard for you to let it go? If we are honest with ourselves and each other, we have all gone through something hard to forgive and let go of that hurt. People hurt Jesus, and he also had to forgive them.  Jesus endured criticism and rejection.  He endured so much more, yet he still chose to obey God and died on the cross for our sins.

Read Luke 7:37-38.  How was this woman described?  What did the woman do when she showed up at the home where Jesus was eating?

Now read Colossians 3:13-14.  Is there anyone in your life right now that you need to let go and forgive?  If so, are you struggling with forgiving?  What is holding you back?

Read Matthew 18:22.   How many times do we forgive? 77 times! Every time the hurt in your life comes to mind, and you know you have unforgiveness, take the time to forgive them. It doesn’t need to be directly or in a note, etc.  You need to say it in prayer.  See where this will take you in forgiving!  Along with that prayer, pray a blessing and good things over them.  Yes, this is hard, yet you will find it rewarding for yourself.

Read Romans 12: 17-21. How are we instructed to let go of payback behavior?  Take time to meditate on these verses.  Let the truth in these verses set into your heart and mind.  Don’t beat yourself up if you have to keep forgiving and working out things of the hurt.  Don’t be embarrassed if you need to go to counseling.  Hurt is hurt.  Sometimes we do need help in this journey of forgiving. Keep seeking out God during this time and let Him heal you. Sometimes forgiveness can take years to work through.  As long as you are working on it, you will be okay.  Forgive out of obedience to God, and let Him do the rest of the work.  In obeying God, you will have a blessing.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for Jesus.  Thank you for letting us have a mentor in how to forgive.  I pray that as we go through things and need to forgive that you will help us in this area.

In Jesus Name

Amen
