Fulfilled Prophecy

I am the way, the truth, and the life.  John 14:6

What have we learned about Jesus in His “I AM” statements?  We have learned that He is the Bread of Life, the Light of the world, He is the way, the truth, and the life.

Jesus can and does make bold statements in the “I AM” statements.  He can make these statements because they are true.  In the Old Testament, the Messiah is fulfilled and proven true through Jesus.  The “I AM” statements of the resurrection and life, gives us hope of eternal life.  Since Jesus tells us He is the only way, it is important for us to see how His life is the fulfillment of prophecy.  We will look at a lot of scripture showing how prophecy has been fulfilled.

We will start with Christ’s birthplace.  Read Micah 5:2, Matthew 2:1. What was the prophecy that was fulfilled?  Yes, Jesus our Messiah was born in Bethelem.  Now to Christ’s birth.  Read Isaiah 7:14 and Matthew 1:20-25.  Jesus, our Messiah, born of a virgin. Christ’s lineage is found in Genesis 49:10 and Hebrews 7:14.  He comes from the lineage of Judah.  Jesus’s journey is found in Hosea 11:1 “When Israel was a youth I loved him,  And out of Egypt, I called My son.  and Matthew 2:14-15, “So Joseph got up and took the Child and His mother while it was still night, and left for Egypt. He [remained there until the death of Herod. This was to fulfill what had been spoken by the Lord through the prophet: “OUT OF EGYPT I CALLED MY SON.”  Jesus’ forerunner is in Isaiah 40:3-4 and Mark 1:2-8; Christ’s words – Psalm 78:2-4 and Matthew 13:10-13; Jesus companions in Psalm 41:9 and John 13:21-27; Jesus trial is Isaiah 53:7 and Mark 15:4-5; Jesus crucifixion is in Exodus 12:46 and John 19:33-36 and Jesus’ sacrifice is in Isaiah 53:5-12 and Romans 5:6-8.

There are numerous verses that speak about the coming King and His Kingdom.  Read Isaiah 62:11, Jeremiah 30:9, Daniel 2:44-45; 7:27; Micah 4:1-8, and Zechariah 9:9-10.  The Israelites are looking for Jesus to become their King on earth and right the political injustices they were facing.  IF these were true, the Messiah would probably be riding on a horse.  However, Jesus came riding on a donkey.  This shows Jesus had a different plan and purpose.  Jesus’ plan and purpose was to come to bring an everlasting victory by dying on the cross for our sin.

Throughout these prophesies, Jesus is in fact who he says He was and what was declared thousands of years ago.  We see how God’s plans are different than the way we think or expect things to go.  We need to align our expectations with God’s purpose.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for showing your purpose and plans in your word.  Thank you for keeping your promises and fulfilling the prophecies.  I pray that we will look at your plans and align our expectations with your plans.

In Jesus Name

Amen
