God Is Who He Says He Is

Moses set out with Joshua his aide, and Moses went up on the mountain of God.  Exodus 24: 13

Do you believe God is who He says He is?  Do you have any doubts? Dear friends, some of us are just starting this journey with God, while some of us have been on this journey for a while.  No matter our length of time of being a follower of Christ, we have the rest of our lives to be increasingly intentional about our unbelief and confessing them to Christ.  Grant it we don’t know the number of days we will live here on earth.  However, we can lean into Christ to help us with our unbelief, receiving the living, active, Word of God.

One of the most important principles is this – present active believing doesn’t happen on special days or on-demand.  Present active believing is a daily lifestyle.  This journey with God is a daily, intentional choice we make every single day that we breathe.  The keyword for this week is ALL.  There will be challenges that will come in our lives and God has every intention of bringing us to victory, He also demands our everything – our all.

There is only one and only way to wholeness and that is through Christ.  For this to be complete wholeness, we have to give ourselves wholly to Him, inviting Him to heal, trusting Him to apportion our gifts, and our talents in the most effective ways.  WE have to give Christ our all, when we do this he does the impossible.

Let’s read Exodus 24: 1-18.  Briefly describe the events in this passage.  What is Joshua’s involvement in this chapter?          Could you live during the old covenant or are you glad you are under the new covenant? Read 2 Corinthians 3:6 and Hebrews 8:8.  We all have the perpetual invitation to climb the mountain of intimacy with God through prayer, worship, and hear Him speaking through His word.  Did you catch what Moses in Exodus 24: 8?  I don’t know about you but that is so gross to me.  I mean the image being sprinkled in blood. Not my cup of tea.  Why in the world did Moses sprinkle blood on the people?  What had just happened in Exodus 24:7?  the Israelites made a promise, they made a covenant with God that they had no power to keep. They couldn’t keep this promise any more than we can. They had to be covered by the sprinkling of blood.  Thank you Jesus for doing this for us. This is called a blood covenant.  While the Israelites had to be sprinkled in order to be covered, we have faith in the work of the cross, we have been sprinkled by the blood of Christ.  We don’t have to have sacrifices like the old testament ever again.  The blood of the Lamb secured that for us in our new covenant.

According to Exodus 24: 13, Joshua was Moses’ assistant, a servant.  Joshua was the only one who got to go with Moses up the mountain.  a small group of leaders got to see the glory of God (verses 9-13, 17). What did the glory of God look like to them?  How long did Moses and Joshua stay up on the mountain before God spoke?  You might need to read Exodus 25:1 to really get the picture.  We have a hard time waiting on God and waiting for Him to speak to us.  Moses and Joshua waiting 40 days and nights, then God spoke. Jump up to Exodus 33:7-11. What are the events and identify Joshua’s involvement.

Ponder on this.  We will continue tomorrow.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for your ways, your promises, your covenant.  Thank you for all the foreshadowing of the Old Testament that we can see how wonderful and amazing you are.  You are so so good.

In Jesus name

Amen
