For the Grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions. Titus 2:11-12
What does Grace teach those who pass its classes? Does Professor Grace teach that believers remain slaves of sin? How is Grace viewed or looked at as?
Read Titus 2
Some view Grace as weak, feeble, fragile, and fearful. Others view Grace as a teacher without a backbone, undisciplined, and without a firm will. In contrast to these views, Grace is bold and powerful. Grace is kind, but it doesn’t tolerate evil. Grace is merciful, but it requires obedience to God. Grace teaches us to say NO to sin.
Some people claim that believers remain slaves to sin on earth. However, Grace teaches us to say “no” to ungodliness and worldly passions and live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in this present age while we wait for the blessed hope—the glorious appearing of our great God Savior, Jesus Christ. Paul does not leave us guessing on what he means by ungodliness and worldly passions. He gives us specific sins to avoid. Please read his letters, Thessalonians, Timothy, Titus, Romans, Galatians, Ephesians, and Corinthians. You will find the sins to avoid.
God does not expect us to be perfect. He expects us to grow in Grace. God’s plan is for us to be more like Christ by the Holy Spirit. Adoption into God’s family is a gift by Grace. This gift of sonship becomes our assignment and identity. By Grace, we become His children. We, then, must behave like God’s children.
Grace teaches us to say “Yes” to what is good. Paul gives us instructions on how to say “yes” to what is good. He gives us examples of how to live as God’s people. To the older men to live in a way that shows they are “worthy of respect.” They will make the gospel attractive through their character. They must be examples of faith, love, and hope. To teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live. Reverent can mean holy. The older women are to mentor the younger women. Teach the young men to be self-controlled. Paul told Titus to be an example of integrity, seriousness, and soundness of speech. Teach the slaves to be subject to their masters. In Paul’s day, it was legal for masters to own slaves. Today, his words apply to workers and bosses – employers and employees.
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you for your Grace and for teaching us how to say no to wickedness and yes to godliness.
In Jesus Name
Amen
