Grace Teaches Us. . .

For the Grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men.  It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope – the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ. Titus 2:11-13

Read Titus 2

Grace is a beautiful teacher; however, the students vary.  We all have the same teacher, but it is up to us whether we will be good students your not so good students.  Good students will study and learn well.  They will have good attitudes and diligence enabled them to pass and take higher classes.  After many years, they will become teachers.

In contrast, some students will not pay attention in class and will not complete homework.  They fail classes and drop out.  Soon they will forget what they have learned.  They remind us of the believers of Hebrews 5:12. After years of learning, they should have become teachers.  However, they still needed someone to teach them the a,b,c’s of grace.  The fate of the seeds depends on the soil (Matthew 13:1-23). The success of the teacher depends on the students’ attitudes.  Some students receive the grace of God in vain.  These fail what grace teaches and fall away from grace.  In contrast, other students grow in grace, so they never fall out.

What God calls good is beautiful, fresh, fulfilling, and satisfying.  God guides us to the good things that bring joy to us.  Goodness is love in action – caring, cooking, cleaning, comforting, helping, and encouraging.  Goodness is love carrying something – such as bringing medicine to the sick, water to the thirsty, food to the hungry, and clothes to the poor, reading the bible to the blind, and explaining the gospel to the prisoner in his cell.   Goodness is a love teaching the bible in class or helping one disciple of Jesus grow.

Dear Heavenly Father,

I pray that we will be good students of your teaching of grace.  I pray that we will cling to what is good and obey what you say.

In Jesus Name

Amen
