Humility

For everyone who exalts himself will humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.  Luke 14:11

Do you know anyone who is truly humble?  How was his/her humility evidence in ones life?

When God is preparing for revival, He convicts His people of their sin and calls them to return to Him.  In the old testament of 2 Chronicles 7:14 outlines how we must respond to  if we wish to experience the revival He desires to send.

“If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.  What are the four conditions that God sets forth for His people?  The four conditions are humble themselves, pray, Seek Him, and turn form their wicked ways.  Did you notice first that He said humble yourself?  Why must we humble ourselves first?

Let’s look at 2 Chronicles 12: 6-8, “So the leaders of Israel and the king humbled themselves; and they said, “the Lord is righteous.”  Now when the lord saw that they humbled themselves, the word of the Lord came to Shemaiah, saying,”They have humbled themselves; therefore I will not destroy them, but I will grant them some deliverance.  My wrath shall not be poured out on Jerusalem by the hand of Shishak.  Nevertheless they will be my servants, that they may distinguish My Service from the service of the kingdoms of the nations.”  God kept his promise to Solomon at the dedication of the temple.  He would listen to the people when they humbled themselves, prayed, sought Him, and turned from their evil ways. The consequences for their actions, however, were still to come.  The leaders would be enslaved to Shishak, so they would understand what service to the lord was like in comparison to serving another king.  Next, let’s look at James 4:10.  “Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.”  People are usually too prideful to mourn their sin.  God calls us believers to a whole new level of righteous living that begins with  humility.

Are you willing to be humble before God?

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for hearing us when we repent.   I pray that we will have humility before you.

In Jesus Name

Amen
