I Am The Bread Of Life

Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life.   Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.”  John 6:35

Have you ever been desperate?  Have you found yourself in this place doing desperate degrading things to ease your pain?

Are you desperate for God?  This is different than worldly desperation.  True desperation for God God will lead to revelation.  God allows us to go through hard, painful things in life.  He doesn’t like it.  He doesn’t cause it.  It is a way that He uses to teach us to fully trust Him and Him alone. IF we don’t fully trust Him, it will be hard to be fully satisfied in Him.  When we are apart from Him, we have no fullness in Him.  We have no true satisfaction.  IF God were to make things easy for us, it would only benefit our body and emotional realms.  It would be a temporary fix.  It would not go deeper into us.  God is after our soul.  This is the deeper place in our lives that God wants to ease the hunger of our souls.  He takes our hunger of our souls and satisfies it.

God is I AM.  He is our ALL peace, provision, perfection, and protection.  This is His promise to us.  Our hearts were designed not just for His completeness but for us to be His companion.  Jesus and His seven I AM statements from the book of John personalizes God’s promises to us.  God is all we need. God desires us to delight in him and to want Him.  God gives us something to crave physically – bread.  He is our Bread of life.

Let’s read Luke 21:4 and 1 John 5:12.  Look closely at the word life.  There are two words used for the word life –  Bios and Zoe. Bios means “breath in your lungs or physical life.” and Zoe means “possessed with vitality looking to the fullness of life.”   God wants us to live a life that is vital and experiencing the fullness of Him. The experience that we get to have every day with Jesus.

We live in a broken world.  Satan is at work bringing doubt to us.  He wants us to be in a state of not being satisfied.  Our souls long for the perfection of the garden; yet, we can’t ever be satisfied by this sin-filled world.  Our Soul is seeking our creator.

Let’s read Matthew 4:1-4.  How was the enemy tempting Jesus?  How does Satan tempt you in satisfying your physical and emotional needs?  Has it kept you from pursuing that “zoe”  life?  We need both the bios and “zoe” life.  It’s not one or the other, but both.  Bios life produces a need for provision.  What could the physical hunger produce in our life for what kind of provision?  God is producing a hunger for the Bread of life in Jesus.  We spiritually hunger for Him.

What we consume will consume us.  Are we consuming God or the enemy?

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for being our I AM. Thank you for sending our bread of life to us and providing for us.  I pray that we will choose to be consumed by you.  I pray that we will seek you daily.  I pray that we will not listen to the lies of the enemy.

In Jesus Name

Amen
