I AM The Way, The Truth, And The Life

I am the way and the truth and the life.  John 14:6

Jesus only states His last two I AM statements privately to His disciples.  Read John 14: 1-4.  “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God[a]; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.”  What did Jesus tell His disciples in verse 1?  Why is Jesus comforting them?  You might want to go back to chapter 13: 21-26, 31-37, and 38 to find the answer to this question.  Jesus says not to let their hearts be troubled.  Do you have a hard time not letting your heart be troubled?  I mean how do you stop that?  The word heart in this passage means the center of human will.  Jesus was saying to have the determination to be unwavering.

Jesus was heading into the hardest part of His life.  When he could have focused on Himself, he chose to focus on his Disciples.  He is a caring Messiah.

Continue reading John 14: 5-14.  Doubting Tom gets a lot of slack, however, here in this passage; he just didn’t sit back and be confused.  Thomas stepped up in his confusion and asked Jesus to clarify His statement.  It is okay to go and ask our Triune God questions.  God wants us to come to Him with our questions and concerns.  What is the I AM statement that Jesus made in this passage?  Yes, I am the way, the truth, and the life.  This is the boldest and simplest statement in the Bible to Jesus being the only way to eternal life. Does anything in this scripture that makes you uncomfortable?  What about this scripture comforts you?  Do you have any questions about this scripture? Take some time if you do and go talk to Jesus about it!  He can clarify things for you.

People think they have options for eternal life.  They think they know the way to eternal life.  However, most people have and are being deceived.  Jesus didn’t come to show us a better way to eternal life, He IS the only way to eternal life.  We need to be sharing the good news of Christ.  We need to be speaking the truth of the bible. If we are letting others think that there are many ways to eternal life, we are deceiving and letting people go to hell.

“and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” John 8:32.  What does this verse say to you?  Have you ever thought of truth and freedom together?  We can often think of truth and freedom as the opposite of each other.    However, it is only in the truth that we can be set free.  Look at Genesis 2:15-16, what are the first words God uses in His commands to Adam?  The LORD God commanded the man, saying, “From any tree of the garden you may eat freely; but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from it you will surely die.”  Genesis 2:16-17.  Now let’s look at how the enemy twisted God’s command.  Read Genesis 3:1 – Now the serpent was more crafty than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said to the woman, “Indeed, has God said, ‘You shall not eat from any tree of the garden’?” The enemy wants us to think God is restrictive, unrealistic, and holding out on us.  This is the lie.  God wants us to know the truth.  As we spend time with Him and are obedient to Him, we will know more and understand more about God and His ways.

Are you living in truth and freedom?

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for having boundaries for our protection.  Thank you for sending the only way, truth, and life to us, and that we can trust that this is the only way to eternal life.  I pray that we will rest in the truth of your word.

In Jesus Name

Amen
