By faith, Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau regarding their future. Hebrews 11:20
Have you found a healthy and non-dysfunctional family in the bible? Please let me know if you have and where it is in the Bible. Read Genesis 27 and Hebrews 11:20. How is Paul gives a testimony of the faith of Isaac? What is it? How can this situation result in a commendation for Isaac’s faith?
Isaac gave his sons a blessing. Jacob tricked his father into granting him the blessing to be given to Esau, the firstborn. Have you ever wondered why Isaac didn’t take it back since he was tricked?
Read Joshua 9:3-6, 14-19. Look at the word league. It comes from the Hebrew word beriyth. It means covenant, alliance, pledge, treaty, alliance, league (man to man). Covenants are not meant to be entered into lightly. How was this treaty formed? Why did the Israelites consider themselves bound by it (Joshua 9:19). Look again at Genesis 27:27-28. One is a blessing, and another is a treaty. What bound these is vowed is the of the name of the Lord. They took the name of the Lord and saying it out loud very seriously. They believed that if they used the name of the Lord in a vow, God alone had the power to break it. The Israelites knew God as a covenant God. They knew He was a faithful God.
Now let’s go back to Isaac. Where did his faith enter into the story? He was old. He had weak eyes. He believed he was dying. Let’s look at some other information. Read Genesis 25:19-26. What happened to it. What do we learn about the twins in the womb? What did God tell her?
Rebekah helped God accomplish His will or fulfill His own prophecy. Even though she used manipulation, God will deal with her at some point. Even though Isaac was deceived, he chose to honor the covenant that he made before God. Remember this was when he was a boy; his own father was willing to offer him as a sacrifice. When Isaac probably want to take action to the situation, he didn’t. He trusted God and His plan.
Read Matthew 26: 47-56 and 27: 41-43. What do you think could have happened if Jesus had acted in His power rather than trusting God and refusing to be goaded into action? Have you ever had a time when you didn’t act when everything within you want to take action in the situation?
Dear Heavenly Father,
Please help us to honor you with the commitments we make. Help us not to take action when we are to stay put and let you lead.
In Jesus Name
Amen
