Joins God’s Purpose

“For God loved the world in this way: He gave His One and Only Son so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16

Do you not say, ‘There are yet four months, then comes the harvest’? Look, I tell you, lift up your eyes, and see that the fields are white for harvest. John 4:35

But Jesus answered them, “My Father is working until now, and I am working.” John 5:17

Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore,  pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”  Matthew 9:37-38

What do all these verses say?  What do we learn about God and Jesus?

God is working around us.  This happens whether we realize it or not.  Our part of this work is to join Him when we see it.  Jesus saw His Father working, and Jesus joined His work by only doing what he was told to do.  How often do you get ahead of God in His work?  How often do we do things thinking it is “good works” only to conclude that we weren’t even to do those things?  God is working amongst us.  He ever stops.  Are we slowing down enough to see Him working? Are we watching for His work around us?

How does one join God in His work?  How do we discover what our part is in His work?

First, We pray.  We ask the Holy Spirit to help us to see what God is doing around us.  Then we look at the activity around the people we do life with -our families, workplace, schools, neighborhoods, hobbies, church, and in the places, we wouldn’t think to look.  For example, the grocery store.  How often do we go to the grocery store?  There are loads of people there.  In fact, I go so much in a week that I start to look for certain employees because I enjoy interacting with them.  Or what about the person who is having car issues?  Yet, you don’t even know them.

God wants us to work right where He has placed us.  We need to be content with where He has us and do the work He has asked us to do.  We need to ask God constantly throughout the day what He wants us to do.  How do we invest in the people around us?

Who in your circle of influence can you sense God working among?  How might God use you to join in His activity in this person’s life?  Where do you see God at work in your city/town?  How might God use you in your home, work, neighborhood, etc.  to engage in His activity?

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for loving us so much.  Thank you for working around us and not stopping.  I pray that our eyes will be open around us to see the work that you are doing?  I pray that you will show us where you want us to join you.  I pray that we will not get ahead of you.

In Jesus Name

Amen
