But he considered these things, behold, an angel of the lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will bear a son, and you shall call him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins. All this took place to fulfill what the Lord as spoken by the prophet: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel (which means, God with us). When Joseph woke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him: he took his wife, but knew her not until she had given birth to a son. And he called his name Jesus. Matthew 1: 20-25
Isn’t God Amazing!!!! Mary said yes, Joseph is thinking of quietly divorcing her. And God sends an angel to talk to Joseph. Joseph being the righteous man he is, obeys God. He keeps her as his wife. The angel tells Joseph about Jesus and what he will do. The Jesus is God with us!! Jesus means the Lord saves. Joseph could not be Jesus human father because Jesus has to be without sin. Sin is passed from the seed of Adam. God is his father so he is without sin, and Mary makes him human. It was the only way for Jesus to be human was by having a human mother. Joseph probably also went through some ridicule for staying with Mary or was it just key people who knew the details, and the people judged him? Either way, Joseph was obedient to God also and trust Him. He would be a father to Jesus here on earth. Oh Joseph, How I view you as a quiet, patient, gentle man who lived his life honoring God.
Dear Heavenly Father,
You are just simply amazing. Words really cannot express how majestic you are. I love your ways. God helps us to be righteous people. To choose to obey you. Thank you for your plan of salvation.
