Devotions

Lives Unburdened

But I am afraid that as the serpent deceived Eve by his cunning, your thoughts will be led astray from a sincere and pure devotion to Christ.  2 Corinthians 11:3

Come to me, all who labor and are heavily laden, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”  Matthew 28:  28-30

What do these two passages say?  What do we learn about God and Jesus from these passages?

Living a life for Christ is all about relationships.  When we look at what we spend most of our time on, we really don’t spend the majority of our time with God.  Looking at our time with God and fellow Christians is really a starting point.  Our bigger goal should be that as we grow deep in God, we will want to spend more time with God and other believers and share that love with the world.  It should become our passion.

Having relationships with God, Jesus and others should not be a burden.  It shouldn’t weigh us down.  Our relationships should not be a to-do list that we mark off each day.  Following Jesus should not be a burden.  Following Jesus should be comforting and life-giving.

How do you expect your life to be different from spending time with God, Jesus, and others?

And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he departed and went out to a desolate place, and there he prayed. Mark 1:35

And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up. And as was his custom, he went to the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and he stood up to read. Luke 4:16

And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. Acts 2:42

For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” Luke 19:10

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Acts 1:8

There are four ways to invest your time.  1) God time 2) Church Time 3) Small Group time 4)  Go Out.  Starting today, let’s make our life about God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit.  Let’s start abiding in God and live as Jesus did.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for your relationships.  I pray that we will abide in you and spend time with you.  I pray that we will invest our time in you and each other and the world.

In Jesus Name

Amen
