We all come to a point in our relationship with God where we have to choose to surrender to God and let go. Where are you right now? Do you need to surrender more? Surrendering is hard heart work. Do you think living for Jesus that you have to be perfect? Living for Jesus, we don’t have to be perfect. It’s about trusting God and surrendering our all to Him.
Let’s read Luke 4:13. What does this verse tell us about what Jesus will face in the future? Jesus was tempting others times while on earth. Now read Mark 8: 34-37. Jesus is defining what it means to be a disciple of His. It also defines what it means to live a surrendered life. Jesus didn’t sugarcoat what was ahead of him or for His followers. If he took that cross, we would take the cross. Reread verse 34, What does it mean to deny ourselves? It means we let go of our personal agenda. What does it mean to take up our cross? This means to let go of old beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors. How about “follow me”? This means to be obedient to God in all of His ways. What is the hardest thing for you to be a disciple and live a surrendered life to Jesus?
Let’s take a look at control and power. Living for Jesus means we let go of our power and control in having our own way. We must be willing to do this. Read John 12:25. What does this verse have the application have on your life right now?
Jesus lived a surrendered life to God. It wasn’t his way or agenda that he lived by. He trusted God and His ways. Today, take some time to listen to the song “I surrender All.” by Judson Van DeVenter. What is each stanza starting first? Can you live this by just saying it once, or do you have to say it numerous times? What area in your life do you need to work at surrender your all to Jesus?
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you for sending your Son Jesus to us. Thank you for having the heart to surrender to God. I pray that we will have a willing heart to surrender to you.
