Looking Back

But Lot’s wife, behind him, looked back, and she became a pillar of salt.  Genesis 19:26

For context, please read verses 15 – 26 of Genesis 19.

Have you ever looked back when told not too?

As followers of Christ, we are to turn away from sin, evil, wicked ways.  The city of Sodom was a wicked, wicked city.  They were warned to turn from their wicked ways.  However,  they chose not too.

The sin of Lot’s wife was she looked back.  First of all, this family was commanded not to stop in the valley or to look back.  This is what Mrs. Lot did.  She disobeyed and looked back.

Why?  What for?

Maybe she didn’t believe that God would destroy the city?  Maybe she was concerned for her neighbors?  Whatever the reasons to justify her actions, she disobeyed!  Which is a sin!!!  She didn’t trust God or believe what he said.

In Luke 17:28-32, here its’ talking about her regarding her stuff.  She placed her interest and affection on earthly society rather than the things of God.  Her heart longed to be back in Sodom.  We as Christians are told that earth is not our home.  WE are aliens.  WE are to renounce the world and flesh.  Weare to keep our eyes on Jesus.

What was her punishment?

She turned into a pillar of salt.  She died.  This was the severity of her sin.  We think because we are kind or doing good things, or just simply good people that we are saved.  It isn’t.  We have to be obedient to God’s commands and His warnings!  OR else there are consequences to our choices.

Have you ever searched your heart about WHY you look back in your own life?

Does it tug at your heart to yearn the things of this world? or does it keep your eye on our Triune God?

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for your mercy and grace.  I also thank you for your just and perfect ways.  I pray that each of us will choose to be obedient to you and take you seriously at your warnings that you give us in our lives.  I pray that we will keep our eyes on you and your ways and not of this world.

In Jesus Name

Amen
