One of the pharisees invited Jesus to eat at his house. While Jesus reclined at the table, a woman found out that Jesus was there. She brought her alabaster jar of fragrant oil and poured it over His feet. She wiped his feet with her hair and her tears. She anointed his feet with fragrant oil and kissed his feet.
It is custom in Jewish culture to wash your guest feet when they enter your home. The pharisee, Simon, who invited Jesus to his house did not do this, it is customary to greet one another with a welcome kiss, first on the right cheek, then on the left. Also when entering a guest home, the host anoints the head with olive oil. Simon did not do any of these things. This was considered rude and an insult to the guest. Jesus wasn’t honored by his host.
But here, we have a sinful woman, who did this at someone’s else’s home. She honored Jesus. She showed great love. She had the right heart. Her love was the evidence of her forgiveness. Forgiveness goes before love; because love come after forgiveness, it is a sign that forgiveness has happened. She loved much. She knew Jesus more than the pharisee. We all need the love of Christ. Christ is God and God is love.
Do you forgive much or little?
How much do you love?
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you for love us a lot. Thank you for showing us how to forgive and love much. Search our hearts and show us if we have to forgive and love more.
In Jesus Name
Amen
