Love Of God

This is how we have come to know love: He laid down His life for us.  We should also lay down our lives for our brothers.  If anyone has this world’s goods and sees his brother in need but closes his eyes to his need – how can God’s love reside in him?  Little children, we must not love with word or speech, but with truth and action. This is how we will know we belong to the truth and will convince our conscience in his presence, …  1 John 3:16-19

How did your grandparents or parents show their love for one another?  I was lucky to have grandparents and parents who knew how to show love to one another.  They were willing to do whatever needed to be done for the other.  They gave up their wants to make the wants of their loved ones happen.  This is love in action.

God’s love is in action also.  His heart moved to act on behalf of His children.  He sent His only Son to rescue us in love and by great sacrifice.  We know God loves us because of the cross.  Romans 5:8, says, “But God proves His own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”  Jesus died for the whole world, not just His friends.  He even died for those who rejected Him.  He loved all.  He calls us to love all, just as he loves His enemies, we are to love our enemies also.

God has called us to die to our selfish nature.  He has called us to lay down our lives in service and in love.  Has God laid someone on your heart to show love too?  Is it someone that is hard to love?  We can love deeply because God loves us deeply.  He doesn’t ask us to do anything that he hasn’t done.

Ask God to put on your heart of others to love deeply.  Ask him how to show love to them.   Take a moment and read Romans 12:9-21.  Write down how to love others.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for putting your love into action.  I pray that we will put our love towards others into action.  Put others on our hearts that you want us to love and to show love too.

In Jesus Name

Amen
