The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy – the Son of God. And behold, your relative Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived a son, and this is the sixth month with her who was called barren. (37) For nothing will be impossible with God.” And Mary said, “Behold, I am a servant of the Lord; Let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.
The Holy Spirit would do a miracle within Mary’s womb. Jesus would be conceived in a supernatural act of God. Jesus would be pure, perfect, and completely holy. He came into the world unstained by sin. Sin is carried from the seed of Adam – Man.
In verse 37, “For nothing is impossible for God.” What hope this verse has. When he tells us to do whatever he is asking, trust God – if. we think its impossible, God will make it possible. Throughout the Bible you see God doing this quite a bit really!!! Here Mary is asked to do something totally impossible. She could lose a lot in her life by obeying God. Joseph can divorce her, her father can reject her, this would force to beg or to become a prostitute in order to earn a living. Plus, people would think she was crazy. However, Mary said, “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord.” Amazing!!!! She willingly obeyed. This is what we should do. Be the servant to God and obey. Don’t laugh or doubt the impossible with God.
Here is a side thought. I have 7 children. I wonder what Mary’s parents thought of all this? How did they respond?
Dear Heavenly Father,
Wow is all I can say. You are simply (not really) amazing! You do the impossible and in the midst of the impossible you protect your people. Maybe not in the way we think, still you protect in ways we don’t understand. I trust you in this.
In Jesus name,
Amen
