May you ask

“you may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted!” John 15:7-9

Do you know what your heart desires?  Does it line up with God’s desires?  In John 15:7, Jesus made an astonishing statement.  You may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted.  Is this the full access of a life abiding in Jesus means?  Well, we have to remember the word “if.”  The condition to having full access is tenaciously abiding.  We have to remain in Jesus at all times. When we do this, our heart’s desire should be what God the father’s desires are.  Look at John 3:22, “and can receive whatever we ask from Him because we keep His commands and do what is pleasing in His sight.”   Do not make the mistake of thinking that we can ask God for anything, and it will be granted.  What we ask for at times might be something altogether different from what our heads are asking for.  Read Romans 8:26-27.  Sometimes, we adults are like little children wanting things that are not good for us.  For little children in this situation, we adults don’t always comply with their commands of wants.  Instead, we look in the best interest.   This is what God the gardener/father does for each of us.  He gives us what is best for us.  Abiding in Jesus is having full access to all we need in God.

There is a place of being real and steadfast in abiding in Jesus that brings alignment of what we long for and what God longs to give us.  When our souls are fully settled in Christ, it gives us access to everything God can do.  Let’s read some scripture that teaches us about access to God.

  • Matthew 27:51
  • Romans 5:1-2
  • Ephesians 2:13-18
  • Ephesians 3:12
  • Hebrews 4:14-16
  • Hebrews 10:19-22

Does anything stand out to you from these verses about our access to God?

God grants ordinary abiders in Christ full access to His vast resources.  This means that we can tell others about Jesus; we don’t have to be famous or have a college degree.  We can ask boldly in prayer from God and receive answers, even if we are not glamour prayer warriors.  We can teach others what we have learned from God’s word.  We can give generously even if we are not rich.  If you weren’t raised in a Christian family, you could start raising your family for God.  You have courage in intimidating circumstances.  That is full access to God through Christ.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for allowing us full access to you through Jesus.  I pray that we will abide in him every day.  Thank you for your resources that we have through the Holy Spirit.

In Jesus Name

Amen
