“The Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.” John 14:26
How well do you remember God?
The brain! Such a complex part of our bodies. Our brains have an imagination. It can suppress memories and can retrieve it back later in life. As humans, we can forget how good our heavenly father is. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, he can help us remember how good God is.
Read Psalm 77:11-12. What kinds of things did the psalmist want to remember?
Take some time and personalize the psalmist’s words. Apply his historical reference to “long ago” to our personal long ago. Look for the fingerprint of God in your life. You can find things in the life lessons that God has taught us along the way. Memory is a part of the learning process. If we couldn’t remember what we learn, we would be learning the same thing repeatedly.
Read John 14:26. What are the activities described by the Holy Spirit? When we accepted Jesus as our Savior, the Holy Spirit took up residence immediately in our lives. He has many roles. One is to help remind us of what we need to be reminded of. He is also called Counselor.
Read Psalm 139: 13-16, Jeremiah 1:5, and Acts 17: 26-27. What is every involvement listed by the Psalmist?
Let’s take a walk down the memory lane of our lives. Take your age and divide it by 5, if it isn’t even round up. For example, I am 44 years old. I would round up to 9, so my first fifth is birth to the age of 9. For today’s closing, take the time to answer these questions and write them down. Today’s question only reflects on the first fifth of your life.
Did any wonders surround your birth? Examples, hard delivery, lost mom, childhood cancer.
What was the emotional and spiritual history of your family heritage at the time of your birth? What birth order do you fall in? Are parents together, separated, divorced? Are you living with them?
What is your family heritage from your great-grandparents? Were they Christians? Who was the first to decide to follow Christ?
Do you believe that God placed you among your family for your sake or theirs, or both?
Who in your family had the most impact on your life in the early years of your walk with Christ?
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you for putting us right where we belong according to your plan and purpose. Please helps us to rely on you and only you.
In Jesus Name
Amen
