Above it were the cherubim of glory overshadowing the mercy-seat. Of these things we cannot now speak in details. Hebrews 9:5
The mercy-seat was used as the cover of the ark of the covenant in the Holy of Holies. The mercy-seat was sprinkled with the blood on the annual day of atonement. On the annual Day of Atonement both a bull and a goat were used. The bulls blood was used for the High Priest and His family. The goat’s blood was used for the whole nation. This served as an offering for the sins as an offering to God. The Mercy seat is where God would come and meet with His people. The mercy-seat is compared to the throne of grace. The Holy of Holies is called the “place of the mercy-seat”.
We as believers can now approach the throne of God because of Jesus dying on the cross shedding His blood in order for us to receive mercy and help for all of our needs. The Old Testament atonement means “to cover over”. Sin needs a payment and a blood sacrifice paid it or at least covered it. Without atonement we would suffer God’s judgement. Hence, God made a way for sin to be covered and man and God could have a relationship.
We don’t have to sacrifice animals, since Jesus died for our sins. All we have to do is accept him as Lord and savior.
See how merciful God is ? Let’s thank God for his merciful ways. That He did not way to Judge us for our sin. That because He is a merciful God, He made a way for us to be white as snow. The our sins are forgiven and forgotten.
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you for your merciful ways. Thank you for being a merciful God. I want to have a daily relationship with you God. Put a desire in my heart to seek you out.
