Noah’s Faith

By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family.  Hebrews 11:7

Could you be as bold and obedient to God as Noah?

Read Hebrews 11:7 and Genesis 6:5 – 22.  In this passage, this is the very first mention of the word covenant.  Where is it, and how did God say He would provide evidence of it?  Now let’s read Genesis chapter 7.  What does verse 23 have to say?  What was destroyed?  Now move on to Chapter 8.  Where did the ark rest? How did Noah know that the waters had receded? What did Noah do when they finally departed the ark?  How did God respond to Noah?  What is our enduring evidence of His promise?

Noah day and age was surrounded by worldliness and wickedness.  The people in those days thought evil all the time.  Noah’s generation was evil.  Noah was a righteous man in those days. He was a blameless man.  He walked with God. Noah had faith to agree with God.  Read Hebrews 11:7.  Noah believed God could do something no man had ever seen.  That there is faith!

Let’s back up a little bit.  Let’s relook at Genesis 6: 23.  Let’s look at the word destroy.  It comes from the Greek word machah.  It means to wipe, wipe out.  To blot out, obliterate, exterminate.  Now, look at Isaiah 43:25.  This scripture uses blotteth out.  Both scriptures use the same Hebrew word in both contexts.  What do you think God means when He says He blots out all our transgressions?

Do you think this is symbolic of Jesus dying on the cross? Read Genesis 6:14.  Look at the word pitch.  It comes from the Hebrew word kaphar.  It means to cover, purge, make an atonement, make reconciliation.  The ark was built to deliver Noah’s family was covered with pitch to seal it.  Like Noah’s family, followers of Jesus Christ will be safely delivered from the coming destruction of the present heavens and earth.  The atoning sacrifice of Jesus has covered us for all eternity.  Only our sins with be destroyed.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for all your lessons in your word.  I pray that we will desire to dig into your word and seek your truths.

In Jesus Name

Amen
